Joy Prom 2017. 230 special needs guests, age 16 and over. Over 800 volunteers who open their hearts and work to create a special evening for some very special people. At Dress Fest, weeks before the big night, the women get to pick out their dresses, shoes, and jewelry, and the men get fitted for their tuxes. On prom day, a local salon treats the guests to a free haircut, style, or updo. That night, joy abounds as the special guests are escorted up the red carpet through bubbles and cheers, meet their escorts and are announced with fanfare as they enter the ballroom. Then, they enjoy delicious and fun prom fare, ride in limos and party buses, take prom photos and dance the night away. There is no shortage of smiles, and joy lights up the eyes of everyone. Parents get dressed up and are able to attend too, even though they are sometimes banished by their children to wait in the hospitality room! They don’t mind as they are truly grateful that their children are given this night to feel loved and special. We follow Kim and Scottie and talk with their mothers as they get ready for and enjoy Joy Prom. We know you will too.
